Journey of the people of Mashhad to the holy shrines of Iraq is now facilitated, says Iraq’s minister of the interior, Othman al-Ghanmi, following a pilgrimage to Imam Reza holy shrine and having a meeting with custodian Hoj. Ahmad Marvi in Mashhad, northeast Iran.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Journey of the people of Mashhad to the holy shrines of Iraq is now facilitated, says Iraq’s minister of the interior, Othman al-Ghanmi, following a pilgrimage to Imam Reza holy shrine and having a meeting with custodian Hoj. Ahmad Marvi in Mashhad, northeast Iran.

Receiving Hoj. Marvi’s proposal for special facilitation for pilgrimage affairs of the people of Mashhad in Iraq, al-Ghanmi said: “I consider rendering services to pilgrims of Imam Hussein (AS) particularly people of Mashhad as a great honor for myself. In a memorandum of understanding with the Iranian government, we have agreed upon two thousand visa-free arrivals of Iranians to Iraq for every day. In honor of dear people of Mashhad, I consider five hundred more entries, in addition to the aforementioned number, only for people of Mashhad”.

Expressing his happiness for attending Imam Reza shrine during eighth Imam’s birth anniversary celebrations, the Iraqi minister said: “Increasing interactions between two neighboring countries of Iran and Iraq and facilitating two nations’ travels and pilgrimages are among major goals behind his trip”.

For his part, Hoj. Marvi said: “The holy shrines in Iraq and Iran are the main causes of unity and solidarity between the two nations. Thanks to the holy shrines of Ahl al-Bayt (AS), a deep friendship and a spirit of brotherhood have been established between people of the two countries.

Marvi went on to say: “Creating different plots and conspiracies between Iranians and Iraqis, the enemies have always tried to sow discord between the two nations”.

Custodian of Imam Reza shrine also referred to his respective organization’s cultural services for Iraqi pilgrims, saying “Regardless of nationality, language and social status, everyone who enters Imam Reza shrine is a pilgrim and guest of the Eighth Imam (AS). Therefore, he or she receives best possible respect and attention and Iraqi pilgrims are no exception. We have dedicated Ghadir courtyard and Dar al-Rahmah portico for Arabic speaking pilgrims”.
